The competition will be broken up into six age groups: U7, 8, 9 (all three age groups on AAA Field); 10, 11 and 12 yr olds (these three age groups on the Major Field), with each age group having a different distance to be considered a home run (12 yr olds will need to clear the fence from home plate, and the distance will be reduced from there based upon age). There will be two rounds per age group, a Preliminary and Championship Rounds. Rules and scoring are attached.

Preliminary Rounds will begin at 4:00 pm, with the Championship Round starting immediately after the preliminary rounds.

Home Run Derby Competition Rules

Preliminary Round: All players per each age group will get 10 strikes (additional pitches will be given if the pitch is not a strike). For T-Ball players, they have the option of hitting off a batting tee or Coach Pitch, while the remainder of the players on the AAA Field will be hitting coach pitch, and all players on the Major Field will use the pitching machine, with speeds set per age group. Points are issued for ball hit into fair territory as well as over the Home Run marker for each age group; see details below. The top 5 players from each age group that have hit the most home runs will advance to the Championship Round. Points are issued based upon the following:

Points

Swing and Miss / Foul Ball – 0 points

AAA Field Only - Fair Ball but not Home Run – 1 point

Major Field Only – Fair Ball past the infield dirt but not Home Run – 1 point

Home Run – 3 points

Championship Round: The top 5 players from each age group will get 10 pitches, where the player who hits the most home runs in their age group will be crowned the 2018 Home Run Derby Champion (in the event of a tie [# of home runs], the player with the most points will be declared the winner). There will be awards for the Champion and Finalists in the championship round.
