45 Acres along Narrow River will be Preserved
The land is near Upper Pond on the northern part of the Narrow River in North Kingstown.
Forty-five acres of land along the Narrow River in North Kingstown will be preserved in perpetuity.
The State Properties Committee last month approved an application by the state Department of Environmental Management to use $167,500 from the state open space grant program to help buy the land.
The land, off Snuff MIll Road, includes swampland, wetlands and forests. It’s also near Carr Pond and the Gilbert Stuart Museum and will be owned by the Narrow River Land Trust, except for two acres owned by the town for parking and a trail entrance.

The property was formerly owned by the Elsie Benson Trust and its purchase is a collaboration between the town, the Narrow River Land Trust and the DEM.
The Providence Journal reported that the state funds will cover about half of the $330,000 sale price. The land will be preserved through a conservation easement.
