A Little Bit of Paradise: More Than A Hair Salon

The Thursday Patch Passport shows you a Little Bit of Paradise. This is a local place where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life, without having to go far from home. Come along and relax...

Come September, will hit its nine-year anniversary at 7671 Post Road in North Kingstown. The salon, situated just a few doors down from , boasts a long list of services, a knowledgable staff and a faithful clientele, said owner Lynette Toolen.

Formerly located near Gil's Place Family Restaurant, Lynette's Complete Hair Care has been in town for well over a decade. "I've been in North Kingstown for 25 years, so I have a following," she said.

"Everbody is friends with Lynette," said Elizabeth Clarke, a longtime cosmetologist and employee in charge of spearheading manicures and pedicures at Lynette's. "She's a good person and good salon owner."

"[Toolen] is a wonderful and fantastic hairdresser," said Peggy Mathis, a retired hairdresser and regular at the salon. She is "very nice" and "very talented," says Mathis.

Hairdresser Eilene MacNeil also had nothing but praise to heap on Toolen. "I've been with Lynette for 14 years," MacNeil said. "[Toolen's] a gem," she said, adding she feels like she "landed in a good place."

Not only does MacNeil enjoy working alongside Toolen, she also enjoys the continuing education she receives as a result. "We keep up with the styes. Every other year, we go to Las Vegas to the symposium," MacNeil said, adding there are hairdressers from all over the world that attend. "It's a wonderful experience."

What are some of the hottest styles this summer?

"The updos are more casual," said MacNeil. And "the whole side bang is in," said Toolen, adding hair feathers have been so popular this year she's been having trouble getting them.

"We're a progressive salon," MacNeil said. "We love doing updos. We've never had anybody leave here that wasn't happy with their updo."

In addition to hair cuts and keratin treatments, the salon offers a whole gamut of body waxing and facials, including microdermabrasion treatments starting at $75 and Brazilian waxes starting at $50.

Experiencing the effects of the sun on your skin? For $80, the salon's Flaxx-C anti-aging facial is said to smooth away fine lines and other signs of aging.

And, even though business during the summer months can be "kind of sporadic," it always picks up in early autumn and during the holidays, Toolen said.

The salon is open Tuesday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Walk-ins are always welcome.
