All Day K is Coming to All NK Elementary Schools this Fall
It was made possible thanks to a strident grassroots campaign, a last-minute budget funding boost and political willpower.

The North Kingstown School Committee on Tuesday had the opportunity to consider voting for something that seemed lost as recently as two weeks ago — to approve the implementation of all-day kindergarten at all of the town’s elementary schools.
Superintendent Phil Auger announced the fall rollout of all-day K on Thursday, saying that the community advocates who pushed for it at countless School Committee and Town Council meetings deserve credit for making it a possibility.
“”I am pleased to announce the North Kingstown School Committee has voted in favor of Full-Day Kindergarten in all NKSD Elementary Schools beginning this September. This is a major and long-needed addition to our programming. Many thanks to members of our community who have advocated on its behalf,” Auger said.

“When you’re done doing the happy dance like the rest of us, please remember to write to your senators and representatives in support of the pending bills which will accelerate funding for districts that implement FDK in the Fall of 2015. Thank you!” the most recent status update stated.
The implementation is thanks to an additional $350,000 appropriation to the school district from the Town Council after an unexpected $1m in PILOT funds from Quonset Business Park appeared towards the end of the budget process.
