Held simultaneously in more than 500 locations across six continents, the Manhattan Short Film Festival is a beloved tradition for cinephiles worldwide.
This year’s Manhattan Short brings together ten finalist films representing ten countries: the United States, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Moldova, Russia, Cuba, Georgia, and Mexico. Spanning animation, psychological thriller, dark comedy, and drama, these shorts explore technology and human connection, truth and belief, family, migration, loneliness, superstition, and the uncertainties of starting over. Expect an AI-dominated future sustained by small talk, a missing care worker and a trail of conflicting stories, a Moldovan village brought to a standstill by a black cat, and a pickup-class assignment that takes a startling turn.

Audience as Judge
As always, audiences play a crucial role in the Manhattan Short Film Festival. Every attendee receives a ballot to vote for Best Film and Best Actor. Votes are tallied across all participating venues, with global winners announced in October.
About Manhattan Short
Manhattan Short began in 1998, when founder Nicholas Mason screened 16 short films on a screen mounted to the side of a truck on Mulberry Street in New York City’s Little Italy. Today, it is the only film festival in the world that unfolds simultaneously in more than 500 venues across six continents, making it the ultimate audience award.

From The Improv in Las Vegas to the Borgata in Atlantic City, dozens of clubs in between and the Newport Chamber of Commerce dinner in 2025, Steve has entertained hundreds of thousands of comedy fans with his wit, wisdom and comedic talent. Teaming up with Jessica Casciano, a Boston Comedy Festival semifinalist she and Steve promise to provide a fantastic show!

This short service of morning prayer will be filled with the familiar hymns and prayers rooted in our Anglican tradition as well as an opportunity for each pet to receive an individual blessing from Fr. Samuelson, Imprint and Playback brings together the work of seven artists who participated in the Movement Lab Fellowship at Rhode Island School of Design, from 2023-2026. Artists include Azadeh Ahmadi, Patrick Buhr, Hunter Whitaker-Morrow, Kameron Neal, L.A. Samuelson, Maxime Cavajani, and Melisa Achoko-Allela.
About the RISD Movement Lab Fellowship
The <a href="https://www.risd.edu/academics/campus-resources/movement-lab/movement-lab-fellowship" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">RISD Movement Lab Fellowship</a> supports post-graduate artists and scholars pursuing independent creative research into movement across disciplines. Based in the Rhode Island School of Design’s Movement Lab, fellows explore movement through practices including animation, film, performance, dance, immersive media, robotics, kinetic sculpture, and emerging technologies. Their research examines how movement shapes perception, communication, social interaction, and embodied experience, expanding how movement can be understood and translated through contemporary artistic practice.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Get your running shoes and lederhosen ready! The annual OktoberVets 5K and German Festival is officially coming to town on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Proudly sponsored by the North Kingstown VFW Post 152, this highly anticipated community event combines fitness, culture, and a deep appreciation for our local veterans.
Since 2017, VFW Post 152 has hosted this premier fundraising event to support its vital community work. As an official non-profit organization, 100% of the race entry fees go directly toward funding critical veteran advocacy, assistance programs, and outreach initiatives managed by the post. Now in its ninth year, the event has become a staple of Rhode Island's autumn calendar, turning miles into meaningful support for those who served.
The festivities kick off sharply at 10:00 AM. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all welcome on the scenic 5K course, making it a fully accessible event for competitive athletes and families alike. Participants will wind through the historic heart of Wickford Village, enjoying beautiful waterfront views and colonial charm along the way. All registered participants will receive excellent race swag, including an official event t-shirt and a custom finisher medal.
Immediately following the race, the celebration shifts gears into a lively, family-friendly German Festival. Attendees can look forward to an authentic celebration featuring a festive local beer garden and grilled bratwurst served up directly by the VFW crew.
Whether you are looking to set a new personal record on the pavement, earn some great new race gear, or simply enjoy a festive autumn day by the water with great food, the OktoberVets 5K and German Festival has something for everyone.

Celebrate autumn on Aquidneck Island with a free, family-friendly outdoor cultural celebration! The 2nd Annual Japan-America Friendship Festival returns to historic Touro Park in Newport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Hosted by the Japan-America Society of Southern New England, Inc. (JASNE), this open-air festival honors the long-standing Newport-Shimoda Sister City connection and local heritage dating back to Commodore Matthew C. Perry’s historic 1854 expedition.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS:

 Thunderous taiko drum sets and dynamic martial arts demonstrations throughout the day.</li>
 <li>History Tent: Explore fascinating maritime history and trade connections in partnership with the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Wareham Historical Society, and Five College Center for East Asian Studies.</li>
 <li>Youth Crafts Pavilion:
