Consignment Shop Now Open in Wickford Village

Consignment shop Eclectic Bungalow in Wickford is now open for business.

Looking for cute designer baby clothes or the perfect piece of furniture to grace that awkward recess in your home but don't want to pay top dollar? Or maybe there are a few things you'd like to get rid of this summer. Look no further than 7 Main Street in Wickford Villlage.

Nestled in a small corner by the harbor, behind , is — a consignment shop that opened three weeks ago by Kerry Oliver, an experienced high-end retail professional.

"Basically, I have an eye," said Oliver of the merchandise in her store—some of which she collected herself prior to opening the shop.

"I worked at Bloomingdale's for seven years; I worked at Lillian August for seven years," Oliver said, the tunes of Jack Johnson softly playing in the background.

"So, I loved merchandise and, I mean, obviously the most important thing in your home is upholstery; you can mix it with antiques and consignment goods and make it look eclectic and fun rather than everything being the same," Oliver said.

To the right of the shop's entryway, brightly colored furniture adorns the store's interior. To the left is a wall of soy candles and white and blue kitchenware perfectly suited for a New England-style home. For weary children, Oliver has even set up a candy nook, strategically located next to the cash register.

In addition to the furniture she has already acquired, Oliver said she hopes to bring in a line of Shabby Chic furniture and accessories.

"In the meantime, I'm still bringing in my own stuff," she said, adding that—down the road—she'd also like to add an affordable upholstery line.

"I've always been a consignment shopper," Oliver said.

Furthermore, she's always wanted her own shop, she said, adding the opening of Eclectic Bungalow is the realization of a seven-year dream. "I've always had kind of this vision and then I found this spot on the deck, which is just perfect," said Oliver of her shop's porch, which overlooks the town dock.

Originally from Connecticut, Oliver has lived in Rhode Island for the past seven years and calls Wickford home. "I've been coming to Wickford, actually, for over 20 years," Oliver said. "My parents used to rent a place on the water in East Greenwich and we kept our boats at Wickford Harbor," she said. "So that's how we kind of found out about this place."

Though an avid consignment shopper, Oliver will be relying on fellow consignment-shop enthusiasts to keep her business moving forward. "That's where I get my stuff from—is people locally," she said.

Whether one is shopping for a pair of Jack Rogers sandals or Vineyard Vines apparel, he or she is bound to find something at Eclectic Bungalow that fits the bill.

Those wishing to sell women and children's clothing through the shop will receive 40 percent of the sale price or 50 percent if the seller prefers store credit, Oliver said. "I keep clothing for 90 days," she said, adding she'll be rotating her merchandise to correspond with the changing seasons.

Eclectic Bungalow is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. However, Oliver said she may keep her doors open longer some nights depending on the demand.

"I'm gonna try to stay open till probably seven or eight o'clock on Tuesday evenings, and people are more than welcome to sit on the deck," she said, adding she may also host ladies' nights on Thursdays.

And while she hasn't yet been able to swing a grand opening, Oliver said she hopes to make that happen soon and that she's planning to make it enjoyable for mother and child alike.

"I'd like to expand and I'd like to get bigger someday," said Oliver of her hopes for Eclectic Bungalow, before pointing to some of her favorite pieces.

"I love mixing new with old," said Oliver.
