Crews Across South County Battle Schartner Farms Fire
The fire broke out early Thursday morning.
Firefighters from across South County are battling a fire at Schartner Farms in North Kingstown Thursday morning.
Crews from North Kingstown, East Greenwich, the Union Fire District, Exeter and the state police have responded to the fire, which has caused delays and closures in the area of Route 2 and 102.
The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. and crews arrived to find a building engulfed and flames coming through the roof.

National Grid responded to the scene to cut power.
The farmstand building suffered damage, according to firefighters at the scene. A portion of the roof collapsed in the rear of the building.

Firefighters had the fire under control about an hour after the first crews arrived at the scene.
There are no reports of any injuries.
Schartner Farms is a 150 acre farm with a farm store, garden center and large commercial produce operation. It is a South County landmark and favorite spot for families to go berry picking, buy pumpkins and get local produce.
