Former Ryan's Market Owner Passes Away

Patriarch and former owner of Ryan's Market David Ryan passed away March 11 at the age of 87.

Ryan co-owned and operated the family-run market in Wickford Village for 57 years until his retirement. A staple of Wickford, the after more than 120 years in business.

Ryan was a communicant of in North Kingstown and also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He leaves his five children (Michael Ryan of Exeter, Mary Sherman of Saunderstown, P. Hope Ryan of Hamilton, Catherine Roque of Newport and Edwin Ryan of Lafayette), 14 grandchildren and two late grandchildren. He was the brother of Joseph R. Ryan of North Kingstown and the late Edward R. Ryan, Paul R. Ryan and James E. Ryan.

The family is hosting calling hours at the Ryan's home at 781 Ten Rod Road Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. for relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 17 at St. Bernard's.
