Fundraiser Planned for Local Woman Battling Cancer

Friends and family are coming together to support Jeannine Denecour, who is battling cancer, with a fundraiser on Saturday.

Jeannine Denecour is a well-known and beloved resident of North Kingstown as well as the owner of Advanced Hair Design in Narragansett.

On Saturday, friends and family will gather at the Elks Lodge at 60 Belmont Ave., in Wakefield for a fundraiser to give Denecour, who is battling stage 4 cancer, much love and support.

Originally diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago, Denecour was able to beat it and watch her children grow up and graduate from high school.

Recently, she fell on the ice and suffered a fracture. It was then that doctors saw that the cancer had unfortunately returned.

Her new goal is to keep fighting to get the chance to see her children walk across the stage at the University of Rhode Island as they graduate there.

“I’m not only a survivor, but a warrior for life,” is her motto -- which has been adopted by co-workers and inspired countless others who have faced similar battles.

At her salon, she’s held numerous support groups and helped many with wigs and wig fittings as they undergo cancer treatment. Over the years, she has been a role model in the cancer community and now, as she continues her battle against cancer, she remains an inspiration.

So it makes sense that it’s now time for the community to show Denecour a bit of the same support. At the fundraiser, which runs from 2 to 6 p.m., there will be food, raffles, live music and an auction. There’s more than $11,000 worth of merchandise waiting to be raffled off and best of all, it’s a chance to spend quality time with the larger community of great people surrounding the Denecour family.

Denecour said she’s overwhelmed and grateful for the support the community, her friends and family have given her. And she makes it clear that the support of loved ones is critical for overcoming cancer. While early detection and treatment is important, a positive attitude and strong support are just as important.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 in advance at $25 at the door.
