Update: DMS Cleared, Students Return To Class After Gas Inspection

Davisville Middle School was evacuated this morning after gas was smelled near the cafeteria.

National Grid has cleared the building and students are heading back into Davisville Middle School after it was evacuated this morning because of a gas smell near the cafeteria and kitchen area on the first floor.

School leaders promptly evacuated students to just down the road on School Street.

"In nice weather, [the students] can just wait outside," said Superintendent Phil Thornton. "But, it's a bit chilly so we decided to have them walk down to St. Francis."

National Grid's comprehensive inspection is routine practice whenever a gas smell is reported. Thornton said there's no need for parents to pick their children up.

"There's still a lot of school day left," said Thornton.
