Why Go: We can’t imagine a more sophisticated way to end our week than an artist reception. Head over to Voila for its reception for Sharon Alemany to meet this watercolor master while enjoying some light refreshments and music courtesy of Susan McLeod.

Why Go: Antiques Roadshow, eat your heart out. Join Ray Rickman, owner of Cornerstone books and longtime book dealer, as he provides information and insights on what makes a book valuable. Audience members can bring up to three books for a free appraisal.

Where/When: Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Ave., Newport | Friday, Feb. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: This event puts a whole new twist on TGIF. Join the Newport Art Museum as it hosts Minor Swing with their gypsy and swing jazz from the 1930s through 1950s while perusing some great art. Refreshments and a cash bar will be on hand for those looking to eat, drink and be merry.

Pricing: $5 for museum members, $8 for non-members.

 

4. Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show

Where/When: Rhode Island Convention Center, One Sabin St., Providence | Thursday, Feb 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, Feb. 25 – 26 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: It’s New England’s premier flower show. As if that isn’t reason enough, there’s nothing quite like a flower show to combat seasonal affective disorder.

5. Irish Meals Beyond Your Mom’s Corned Beef & Cabbage 

Where/When: Rhode Island Kitcen & Bath, 139 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick | Friday, Feb. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Visiting Chef Series continues at Rhode Island Kitchen & Bath with Chef Phillip Griffin and Malinda Coletta, the husband-wife duo who love to celebrate all things Irish. Pick up some out-of-the-ordinary culinary ideas for St. Patrick’s Day this year!
