Gilbert Stuart Museum Spring Fair, Sunday April 24

Gilbert Stuart Museum Spring Fair Celebration and Opening Day fun for the whole family.

Join us at the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum in Saunderstown on Sunday April 24, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at our Spring Fair celebration--a family fun afternoon filled with activities for all ages. Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for children; and free for current members of the museum.

  • Watch the return of the river herring on an underwater camera with DEM biologists.
  • Taste traditional johnnycakes.
  • Observe the miller grinding corn in the historic grist mill.
  • View the first gallery exhibition of the season--"Are We Up to Snuff?" featuring rare and unusual snuff boxes as well as views of the snuff mill through the ages.
  • Learn about the history of tobacco and snuff at the site of the first snuff mill in the American colonies.
  • See original art by Gilbert Stuart.
  • Take a self-guided tour of the Stuart Birthplace and meet Gilbert Stuart himself (a living history presentation).
  • Enjoy live music by Farm Dog.
  • Create a fish print
  • Explore the nature trail
  • See spinning, weaving, and rug hooking demonstrations.
