The band will perform on three consecutive Wednesdays at North Kingstown's waterfront band shell

Summer weather is here and with it comes free live music from the Lafayette Band of North Kingstown. The ensemble will perform a concert on each of the last three Wednesdays in July, all starting at 7 p.m. at the Town Beach band shell on Beach Street, off Route 1A, Wickford.

  • July 15, the Lafayette Band will welcome the North Kingstown Community Chorus for a joint concert. If necessary, the rain date for the chorus' appearance will be Wednesday, July 22.
  • July 22, the concert will be sponsored by the Center for Mediation Rhode Island, an organization that provides training and education to empower Rhode Islanders to resolve conflicts.
  • July 29, the band will perform its penultimate concert of the summer.

The nonprofit Lafayette Band was founded more than 140 years ago, making it one of the oldest bands in Rhode Island. Its mission is to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Performances feature patriotic and classical music, show tunes, marches and more, led by Music Director Charles Johnson. Admission is always free. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

In case of rain on any of these July dates, the band will move the performance inside the adjacent North Kingstown Community Center, if possible. For updates, go to lafayettebandri.org, or facebook.com/LafayetteBand.RI.
