Lafayette Band Presents 10th Annual Armed Forces Salute Free Concert on Saturday, May 20

On Armed Forces Day, Music Director Bethany Clarke-Bromley to Lead Tribute to U.S. Military, at North Kingstown High School

The Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will perform its 10th annual Armed Forces Salute on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, at 7:00 p.m. at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive. Music Director Bethany Clarke-Bromley will conduct a stirring program of patriotic favorites, Broadway tunes, and big band music.

The Armed Forces Salute is a community tribute to past and present members of all branches of the U.S. military. Recognition will be given to all veterans and family in the audience.

Admission is free and all ages are welcomed. Free-will donations at the door will be appreciated and shared between the Providence VA Medical Center Voluntary Services Office, to aid veterans in need, and the band's free community concert program.

This year’s concert will have a special focus on commemorating the 100th anniversary of America entering World War I. The Lafayette Band has been assisted in this effort by Matthew McCoy of VFW Post 152, North Kingstown, who serves as WWI State Centennial Commission Coordinator.

The master of ceremonies will be Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio, Adjutant Emeritus, Rhode Island National Guard. The program will also feature:
  • an honor flag line provided by the Patriot Guard Riders;
  • memorial "Taps" played by R.I. State Bugler TSgt. Michael Jackson, USAF (Ret.);
  • color guards, including the Varnum Continentals, East Greenwich; Korean War Veterans, West Bay Chapter; and U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Quonset;
  • and the USS John Fitzgerald Kennedy Museum staff and scale model.

The concert is made possible by a grant from the North Kingstown Arts Council.

The Lafayette Band is a nonprofit community concert band with a mission to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Founded more than 130 years ago, it is one of the oldest bands in Rhode Island. Though based in North Kingstown, the band’s members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
