Lafayette Band Presents 11th Annual Armed Forces Salute

Free Concert and Tribute to Veterans on Saturday, May 19

The Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will perform its 11th annual Armed Forces Salute on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 19, at 7:00 p.m. at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive. Music Director Bethany Clarke-Bromley will conduct a program of patriotic favorites, Broadway tunes and big band music.

The Armed Forces Salute is a community tribute to past and present members of all branches of the U.S. military. A memorial ceremony will remember those who served our country, and recognition will be given to all veterans and family in the audience.

Admission is free and all ages are welcomed. Free-will donations at the door will be appreciated and shared between the Providence VA Medical Center Voluntary Services Office, to aid veterans in need, and the band's free community concert program.

The master of ceremonies will be Kasim Yarn, R.I. Director of Veterans' Affairs. The program will also feature "Taps" played by R.I. State Bugler TSgt. Michael Jackson, USAF (Ret.); flag ceremonies and honor guards from the R.I. National Guard; Pawtuxet Rangers; Korean War Veterans Association, West Bay Chapter; and U.S. Navy Sea Cadets - Quonset; and the USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier Project staff and scale model.

The concert is made possible by a grant from the North Kingstown Arts Council.

The Lafayette Band is a nonprofit community concert band with a mission to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Founded more than 130 years ago, it is one of the oldest bands in Rhode Island. Though based in North Kingstown, the band’s members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
