NK5k Road Race
From our recollection, it was way back in 1998 that we had the first running of the NK5k. And every year since then, except one, this has been the premier road race in town (remember we actually ran during a hurricane tracking towards us in 2003!!)

Through the years, the NK5k has raised over $100,000 for scholarships, local sports teams and other extracurricular and educational endeavors. Amongst those benefitted are the WMS and DMS baseball and softball teams, junior high and high school cross country programs, the DMS science Olympiad, the High School band and drama department, the Sailing Team and the Swim Team just to name a few. We are glad to have supported such a wide variety of student programs and have made funds available to any activity that involves students as long as a request is made.
Well this year, we find ourselves in a pickle. Most of our major sponsors are not able to be with us in 2016. Budgets are tight and worthy causes and even other road races abound. So we are asking ourselves, could this be the last year? And that is why we are turning to the NK community to help us decide.

We feel as though this race is not ours, but yours. We don’t organize it for ourselves, but for the student programs that we support. So is it good for there to be a race in a town of runners that is about NK? Is it good for this community to come together in a fun and slightly competitive, healthy endeavor like a road race? Is it good to support the variety of programs we have helped?
Well if you said yes to those questions, then can I ask you to register for this year’s NK5k road race and walk? If you are in a position to sponsor the race, we have many levels of sponsorship with great publicity for you in various forms. The race is Saturday, September 10th and starts at 10am with kids races starting at 8:30. You can go to NK5k.net and register and find out more information.
