Letter: Superintendent Updates on Quidnessett Roof Issues

Superintendent Phil Auger updates parents and staff on the roof situation at Quidnessett Elementary School.

To SMH Quidnessett parents and staff:

The at are better but not perfect.  The major items of the last few weeks, including the second grade classroom, are now holding, but this weekend we have noticed three small leaks in other areas. The manufacturer of the roof has been dispatched to immediately address these new areas.  Per our facilities sub-committee meeting last week, we are looking to have a comprehensive fix to take place this summer under warranty.

We have no analysis evidence of a mold problem in the air or within the carpet, but to allay fears from all involved, I will be proposing to the school committee on June 12 that we issue a request for proposals (RFP) to remove the carpet and replace it with a hard floor (paint, polish or tile), and that we also address the ground water issues that have appeared over the years and address all problem windows as well.   I will also be asking for our Town Council to share in the costs of this work which I hope to complete as soon as possible.
