Local Woman Advances To American Idol's Hollywood Round

For local Melanie Donnelly, second time's a charm.

The North Kingstown native has advanced on to the Hollywood round of the hit show in her second bid to become the next American Idol. In 2008, then 16-year-old Donnelly auditioned before producers in Florida but failed to advance.

Donnelly is a 2009 graduate of North Kingstown High School and currently attends Berklee College of Music.

The Hollywood round kicks off this week with more than 300 contestants ready to belt their hearts out for Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Catch American Idol this Wednesday and Thursday for the Hollywood rounds at 8 p.m. on Fox.
