NK Police Charge Warwick Teacher with Rape
Police said the incident occurred in 2014, police said.

A 49-year-old teacher in the Warwick school district has been charged with two counts of sexual assault for allegedly raping a 15-year-old in 2014.
Mario Atoyan, a science teacher at Gorton Junior High School, turned himself in to police on Monday and was arraigned and released on $10,000 personal recognizance.
Police said the victim is related to Atoyan and the crimes occurred in North Kingstown.

Atoyan has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

School principal Jeff Taylor said in a letter to parents Monday that the school community is “deeply affected” by the incident and a School Response Plan has been implemented to help students and families deal with the situation. Counselors will be available in the school.
