NK To Start Party Patrols

Cranston already has party patrols. Now, North Kingstown is going to start them and also plans to make sure liquor stores are checking IDs.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Party Patrols and Cops in Shops are coming to North Kingstown, the police department said. Both programs are efforts to crack down on underage drinking and other types of substance abuse in Town. Police are also asking the public to call the TIPS line at 401-294-3316 extension 8411, if they know about an underage drinking party or about any adults buying liquor for youngsters under 21.

Citing statistics, the police say 20 percent of underage drinking starts before age 13, and 90 percent of high school seniors nationwide told a survey it's "very easy" to get alcohol. The officers are teaming up with the North Kingstown Prevention Coalition and the South County Prevention Coalition to" educate, deter and apprehend those who participate in underage drinking and substance abuse in North Kingstown."
