Another excellent lacrosse day for the players and families of NKYL who hosted their second annual North Classic Tournament. The boys 5/6 and 7/8 Division I teams battled hard against teams from RI and CT at Wilson Park. The 5/6 team went undefeated until the championship game and fell to East Greenwich 3-5. The 7/8 boys won all their games, including the championship game against Stonington 7-6 in overtime. “Overall, the Tournament was a ton of fun!”, said defenseman, Jake Silversmith. “For the first two games, there was a very laidback and relaxing atmosphere. While things certainly picked up in the last game, it still felt like we were there to enjoy ourselves and have fun. Winning definitely felt great, especially since Stonington was a strong and determined team, it was overtime, and we were on our home field.” Stonington had tied the game at the buzzer in the final moments of regular game play. At the start of overtime, middies Joe Erickson and Bodie Fish won the face off and ground ball. Fish made a beautiful pass to attackman, Owen O’Farrell for the game winning goal. O’Farrell said, “We all worked really hard and it came down to overtime. Bodie set me up and I was able to bury it in the back of the net”. A true team win and an excellent lacrosse day for all the teams who participated. All the NKYL teams will be finishing their regular season games soon and look forward to making the state playoffs.
