The North Kingstown Community Chorus awards two music scholarships

Join us Saturday, May 6 at 7 PM or Sunday, May 7 at 3 PM as we award scholarships to Erica Smith and Michael Robinson at our spring concert.

The North Kingstown Community Chorus is proud to be awarding two music scholarships to two very talented high school seniors who will be continuing their music studies at the college level.

Erica Smith, a senior at North Kingstown High School, has won the North Kingstown Community Chorus scholarship for music. She has studied clarinet for eight years with the clarinet principal of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. She is co-winner of the orchestra's Concerto/Aria Competition and ranked first in the Rhode Island All-State Symphony Orchestra's instrumental competition for four years. She is a member of the high school's Symphonic Band, the pit orchestra and clarinet quartet. Erica is an outstanding student and member of the National Honor Society. She will attend the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and pursue a degree in clarinet performance. Erica will perform at the Saturday evening concert May 6th at 7 PM.

Michael Robinson, a senior at South Kingstown High School, has won the Janet Berry scholarship for music. Michael plays the trumpet, French horn and piano. He is in the pit orchestra and the marching and concert bands at the high school. He also sings tenor in the Gentlemen's Choir and Barbershop Quartet. He has been All-State Trumpet for four years and participated in the UCONN 1st Chair Honor Band. Michael composes and arranges music and has placed well at the Berklee High School Jazz Festival. He is an outstanding scholar and member of the National Honor Society. Michael will attend the University of Rhode Island, enrolling with plans for a degree in Music Education. Michael will perform at the Sunday afternoon concert May 7th at 3 PM.

The North Kingstown Community Chorus spring concert, "Love Is Here to Stay", is performed at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Tickets are $10 if purchased or reserved in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at The N.K. Chamber of Commerce, Flowers by Bert and Peg, Dave's Market in Wickford, Dave's Market at Quonset, Wickford Package Store and the Impressed Olive. Call 401-295-1699 to reserve tickets
