North Kingstown Locals Compete in Iron Man

On the list of things you pine to do on a 90-degree day in Providence, biking for 56 miles, swimming for 1.2 miles and running a half marathon are probably somewhere slightly above metal forging or visiting a volcano.

Three North Kingstown residents rose above the sweltering temperatures, however, to compete in this year's Amica Iron Man 70.3 competition. This year, more than 1,400 participants competed in the event in the capital city.

Representing North Kingstown was 75-year-old Fredric Silverblatt, Chief of Medicine at Providence VA Medical Center. Silverblatt finished 891st overall with a time of 9:43:33.

Kristian Photopoulos, 39, of Saunderstown also competed, finishing 540 overall with a time of 6:24:10. Minutes ahead of him was Rob Piacitelli, 48, with a time of 6:10:46, 449 overall.
