North Kingstown Music Department Presents Its Spring Concert

North Kingstown honors First student to ever win All-Eastern.

Musicians at North Kingstown High School helped usher in spring in a much more hospitable way than our friend (or foe) Mother Nature with their Spring Band Concert this past Wednesday night. Proud parents, friends, family and fellow students turned out to feast their ears on the stylings of NK’s musical talent.

For Band Director Toni Silveira, the concert was a testament to the vast improvements the musicians have made over since September.

“Without exaggeration, we couldn’t get through three or four measures,” said Silveira. “We couldn’t recognize the song or the instruments. Tonight you will hear how hard they have worked and how far they have come. I would publicly like to congratulate them for their hard work.”

The night followed with the concert band taking the stage, featuring solos from Dan Alexander (guitar), Felix Torres (clarinet), Jack Tregenza (trumpet), Todd Garrepy (French horn), Lauren Hynes (flute) and Megan Bamford (bassoon.)

Switching gears, Silveira and Assistant Superintendent Phil Auger took time to commend and honor some especially talented students, including drummer Kai Colucci who is the first NK student to win an All-Eastern nod.

“Kai is the most talented student I have ever had,” said Silveira after the show.

Colucci has been accepted to New York University and the University of Miami, but admits he’s leaning towards the latter. The 17-year-old prodigy began drumming at a young age.

“I don’t know but I figured it was fun to bang on stuff, so I chose the drums,” he said.

The night ended with a performance by the symphonic band, featuring solos by Jack Wrenn (clarinet) and Matthew Ricci (alto saxophone).
