North Kingstown Wickford Little League District Season Update

The district or all-star tournament season for NKW Little League has finished for the U10, U11, and U12 teams. Here is a recap.

The 2018 District Tournament season starts right after league play every summer. Divisions include 10U, 11U, and 12U with opportunities to play other teams in your district. North Kingstown Wickford is in District 3, so we play teams from Coventry, South Kingstown, East Greenwich, Warwick, and Westerly to name a few. Games can be played at home or away. The play on the field is incredible. It's hard to imagine sometimes that these are 10, 11, and 12 year olds playing out there. The skill level is just amazing. Here is how North Kingstown Wickford fared in this year's District 3 Tournaments:

U10- After 2 impressive wins against Narragansett and Coventry, NKW traveled to Warwick and registered its first loss of the tournament to Warwick Continental American. Then, consecutive wins against Coventry and Warwick Continental American put NKW in the championship game against Warwick Continental American on Sunday, July 7. Despite a great game pitched and played in the field, in the end it wasn't enough as Warwick Continental American beat NKW by a score of 9-3. Great run, great season and the future is very bright for NKW with this group.

U11 - Two close games to start for NKW Little League but unfortunately no wins. NKW lost its opening game to Warwick North. Then, the 11's traveled to Chariho and lost its final game, after a great effort, by a score of 13-8. One play here or there, according to the head coaches, and those results would have been wins for sure.

U12 - After dropping a tough game on the road against Coventry, the NKW 12's faced elimination against Westerly. Down 1-0 in the fifth, NKW mounted an incredible rally and came back to win the game 4-1. Then, it was onto Warwick North on Sunday, July 8th to stay in the tournament. Another close game but sadly, different results. NKW falls to Warwick North 4-1 and has been eliminated from the 12U tournament.

A message from NKW League President Arnie Sarazen, "Our District season came to an end today. The kids worked hard and put up a fight in all 3 age brackets. Our 10s made a valiant effort today as Runners Up for the district championship. Thanks to all the coaches, players and families for their tireless hours of hard work on the kids’ behalf. Thanks to Sandy, George, Henry Hershum, Peter and the Maybachs for help officiating the games."

Thanks to all the fans who traveled to Chariho and Coventry and Warwick as well as the huge crowds at Wilson Park for every home game. The kids appreciate all the support you give them. And the league is stronger with great coaches, unselfish volunteers, and amazing kids who love baseball. Thanks for making this season of "One Town, One League" so very special.

One final note, Fall Baseball registration is now open for anyone interested in signing up. A league wide email will be going out soon with the website link for registration.
