North Kingstown Woman Charged with DUI in Newport
Police said the 21-year-old was stopped for speeding at 12:45 a.m. on America's Cup Boulevard.
A 21-year-old North Kingstown woman was charged with driving under the influence in Newport early Tuesday morning.
Police said Lauren Smith, 21, of 395 Westmoreland Road, North Kingstown, was stopped for speeding on America’s Cup Avenue at around 12:45 a.m.
Once stopped, police said Smith showed signs of intoxication. She later failed a field sobriety test and registered a .136 and .133 blood alcohol reading in two separate preliminary breath tests at police headquarters.

Smith was held overnight for arraignment Tuesday in Second Division District Court in Newport and later released on personal recognizance. She’s due to return to court on Aug. 15 for a pretrial conference.
