Obituary: Anthony O. Tietze, 76, Accomplished Sailor

Anthony O. Tietze, 76, of Wickford, RI, died May 23, 2014.  He was the husband of Susan E. Tietze.  He was a native of Durham, CT, the son of Eleanor and Frederick Tietze. 

He was a graduate of Mt. Hermon class of ’55 and attended Tufts University and the University of Connecticut.  In 1966, he began his advertising career in Boston, working at several agencies.  In 1977, he moved to RI and worked at Potter Hazelhurst and Duffy Shanley until his retirement, making many close friends along the way.  He was a passionate and accomplished sailor.  After retirement, he explored the coast of Maine each summer in a variety of sailboats and in his beloved MDI.  He was funny, smart, and one of the good guys. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Sandra O. Talmadge of Richmond, VA; his nephew, Seth Talmadge, his wife Meredith and daughter Ellise of Roanoke, VA; and his nephew Brent Talmadge, his wife Diana and son Julian of Hardy, VA. 

A Service of Remembrance & Thanksgiving will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 am in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the North Kingstown Free Library, 100 Boone St. North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
