Obituary: Carl R. 'Rut' Johnson

The following obituary was provided by Hill Funeral Home in East Greenwich.

Carl R. "Rut" Johnson of Tamworth, NH passed away Aug. 31 at the age of 87. He was the loving husband of Bernice R. (Connery) Johnson.

Born in Providence and raised in Warwick, Johnson spent many years on Sunnybrook Drive in North Kingstown with his wife until their retirement to New Hampshire. 

Johnson was the father of the late Steven and Shirley Johnson. He is survived by two sons (Glen and Greg), four grandchildren (Kimberly Smith, Megan Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Owen Johnson) and three great-grandchildren.

Johnson was a World War II veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked as a machinist at both ITT Grinnell and General Dynamics. His hobbies included camping, bowling, coaching softball, skiing and woodworking. He ended each day having a Manhattan and a side car holding the cherry.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Hill Funeral Home in East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in East Greenwich. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
