Obituary: Fr. Peter Bortolazzo C.S., 96
Father Peter Bortolazzo of Scalabrini Villa passed away last week.

Father Peter Bortolazzo passed away Dec. 8 at Scalabrini Villa Nursing Home. He was 96 years old.Â
Father Bortolazzo was a member of the Scalabrinian Congregation for 78 years and a priest for 73 years. He was born on Sept. 14, 1916 in Crespano del Grappa in Treviso, Italy. He began his religious profession in 1934 and was ordained a priest in 1939.
He was the brother of the late Luigi of Vancouver and the late Angelo, Tecla, Antonietta, Angelina and Maria who died in Italy. He is survived by his brother Francesco in Australia and numerous nephews and nieces in Canada, Australia and Italy.

Father Bortolazzo did his ministry as a Scalabrinian missionary in New England and Ontario.Â
He was pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Fredonia, NY (1948-1952); of St. Anthony Parish in Everett, MA (1954-1964); of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel in Utica, NY (1964 1973); of St. Catherine of Siena in Mississauga, ON, Canada (1973 1976). He was associate pastor in St. Bartholomew Parish in Providence, RI from 1976 to 1983.

In 2008 at the age of 92, he retired to Scalabrini Villa. He will be waked at the Villa's Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. He will lie in state Thursday, Dec. 13 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave. in Providence, followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.Â
