Obituary: John A. Roque, 96
John A. Roque, M.D. (formerly of Plum Beach) passed away Thursday, Jan. 17 at the age of 96.

John A. Roque, M.D. of Naples, FL (formerly of Plum Beach in North Kingstown) died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Thurs., Jan. 17. He was 96 years old.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Bolton) Roque. Born in Providence toWarren E. and Mary L. (Gallagher) Roque, he lived in Plum Beach for many years before moving to Naples, FL 10 years ago.

A graduate of Providence College and Tufts University Medical School, Dr. Roque served his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Following his naval service, he established his medical practice in Cranston, where he maintained his office until his retirement 30 years ago. He was affiliated with Rhode Island Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital, and was president of the medical staff at St. Joseph Hospital in 1975 and 1976. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Rhode Island Medical Association, and the Catholic Physicians Guild. Dr. Roque was an avid sailor, and enjoyed skiing and golf. He was a devoted family man.

He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth E. McDonald and her husband James of Malden and Scituate, MA; Martha M. Palank and her husband Dr. Edward of Naples, FL and Mashpee, MA; and Mary C. Flaminio and her husband Thomas of Hudson, OH; a son, John A. "Andy" Roque, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Newport, RI; two brothers, Warren P. Roque of Cranston and the Most Reverend Francis X. Roque, D.D. of Pawtucket; a sister, Mary L. Guertin of Florida; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Dr. Robert E. Roque, Barbara M. Roque, and Gerald W. Roque.
His funeral will be held on Mon., Jan. 21, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick. Visiting hours are Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to RI Right to Life, P.O. Box 28285, Providence, RI 02908.
