Ocean State Waves Looking for Host Families For 2017 Summer Season

President and GM Matt Finlayson is looking for local host families for incoming Ocean State Waves collegiate players from out of state.

Wickford Little League and North Kingstown American Little League - every summer southern Rhode Island welcomes some of the top collegiate baseball players in the country to play right here in South County. A summer's night game watching The Ocean State Waves is fast becoming one of the best family friendly activities for the baseball fan here in Rhode Island. Tickets are affordable, the play on the field is exceptional, and the memories will last a lifetime. I've gotten to know the President and GM of the Ocean State Waves, Matt Finlayson, over the past few years and I'm happy to support any and all of his efforts to make the Waves a preferred destination for the nation's top baseball talent. Here is a message he just recently posted to me that I'd like to share with you...

Every summer, 32 top level collegiate baseball players from around the country come to South County to play for the Ocean State Waves in the number 2 league out of 80 plus leagues. 40% of these players will sign pro-contracts or get drafted. The baseball is great but our organization is equally dedicated to serving the South County Community in a positive fashion. All of the Waves live with wonderful families in the community that are part of our host family program.
Host families are the lifeblood of our organization and the relationships that they cultivate while players become part of their family last a lifetime. Our players report June 4 and will leave when the season is over which at the latest would be August 12 depending on playoffs. Players have incredibly busy schedules playing 44 games with half of the games being played on the road as far away as Montpelier, Vermont. Host families are expected to provide players with a bed, a room, access to a kitchen and access to laundry. Host families are not expected to provide transportation or food for the summer.
We are so grateful for what our host families do for our players. Host families receive a host family pass that allows their family free admission to any NECBL ball park. This pass never expires and is good forever. Waves host families are invited to attend 5-7 family style team post game gatherings including George’s, Phil’s, Mews, Coast Guard, Eddies BBQ, Whaler’s Brewery and Charlie O’s. Kids 8-14 years old are welcome to attend our Waves summer camp held in in Westerly and South Kingstown for free if their family is part of the host family program. Our host family coordinator, Melissa Perry, also does a gift bag for each host family that includes a few gift cards from our local sponsors.
If you would like to learn more about our host family or are interested in becoming part of the Waves family, please contact our host family coordinator, Melissa Perry, at Melisperry10@gmail.com – 401-932-2797.
All the best and Go Waves!
