Pawtucket Man Pleads No Contest To Running Down Cop While Fleeing Sex Sting

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A North Kingstown man pleaded no contest to running down a police officer while fleeing a sex sting, along with numerous other offenses.

Alec Perry, 31, pleaded no contest to assault with intent to commit specified felonies, indecent solicitation of a child, electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor, eluding law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit, assaulting a police officer, reckless driving, resisting legal or illegal arrest, obstructing an officer in execution of duty, driving with suspended, revoked or cancelled license, and duty to stop for an accident resulting in damage to a vehicle.

Leading up to the Aug. 1 sex sting, Perry "engaged in an extended series of text messages soliciting sex from an undercover police officer who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl," the Rhode Island State Police said at the time.

He then drove to a North Kingstown park to rendezvous with the girl but instead was confronted by law enforcement, the state police said in a media release.

"While police attempted to place Perry in custody, he accelerated his vehicle, striking a North Kingstown police officer," according to the release.

The officer was seriously injured, the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office said in a media release.

In the attempt to apprehend Perry, "several officers discharged their firearms," police said.

"Perry attempted to escape custody and led the officers on a short vehicle pursuit before crashing his vehicle," the release said. "After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody."
