SCCAA Moves Heating Assistance Program to NK

WAKEFIELD – Following the recent renovations to its facility in North Kingstown, South County Community Action Agency announced that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program [LiHEAP] has been moved to the 415 Tower Hill Road location.

“By relocating the LiHEAP program, we hope to provide better accessibility to the clients and their families who need this critical support,” explained South County Community Action CEO Joseph DeSantis. “We are also providing applicants with more privacy by having a dedicated space for intake meetings with our staff.”

After a severe mold issue forced the closure of the building last spring, contractors spent the summer renovating the interior for use as one of SCCAA’s four Head Start locations in Washington County, and a group of volunteers from Fidelity Investments of Smithfield lent their efforts to beautifying the grounds.

Once that work was done and additional space became available, DeSantis said “it was a logical step to take” to consider what other programs and services could be relocated from SCCAA’s main building in Wakefield.

“The Tower Hill Road facility offers more parking and a more convenient location for clients in the surrounding area,” noted DeSantis, who added that half of the agency’s LiHEAP applicants came from North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and Narragansett during the last grant season.

SCCAA will also continue to accept LiHEAP applications and conduct intake interviews at the Westerly Community Center, 34 Pond St., DeSantis said.
