‘The Subway Guy’ Stops in at Stony Lane
Jared Fogle, spokesperson for Subway, stopped by Stony Lane Elementary School Friday afternoon.
Students and staff at Stony Lane Elementary School got a special treat before clocking out for the weekend as Jared Fogle of Subway fame stopped by the school Friday afternoon.
More commonly known as “The Subway Guy” or “Jared From Subway,” Fogle has served as a spokesperson for Subway for the past 12 years. Friday, he visited the school as part of its “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds” theme day. Fogle, who was in town for Saturday’s Heart Walk at Colt State Park, speaking to elementary school-aged students had a special meeting as his battle with weight began when he was eight years old – after his parents bought him a Nintendo video game system.
“I stopped playing sports. I stopped eating healthy food. I stopped listening. All I wanted to do was play more and more video games and watch more TV. More importantly, I fell in love with junk food,” said Fogle.

At its peak, Fogel’s weight ballooned up to 425 pounds. It wasn’t until college when Fogle decided to make a lifestyle change and began exercising and substituting Subway sandwiches for his deep-fried foods – dropping 245 pounds while at Indiana University. Before you can ask, yes he did bring the infamous size 60 pants – which received more than 100 gasps from students.
Fogle and the American Heart Association awarded Stony Lane Elementary School for raising more money for the organization than any other school in Rhode Island.
