Treasure Hunt: The Grateful Heart

The Friday Patch Passport shows you where you can find trinkets in your town. Get out and explore the unique local shops and all they have to offer.

For more than 23 years, has offered shoppers a bit more than the usual spread of eclectic trinkets and souvenirs. Mother and daughter owners Katherine and Jennifer Wheeler have a shop that truly fosters the growth of the mind and the spirit.

From a slew of texts on spirituality, gemology and the power of nature to one-of-a-kind pieces of designer jewelry, The Grateful Heart promises visitors a very personal and comforting shopping experience.

Jennifer explained that it is “the nature of what we sell, not just what we sell. Our ultimate goal is to help people find the right thing, not just anything. The items in this store tend to jump out to customers in a totally individual way.”

The stores jewelry selection is such a colossal success because of the very subtle differences between the composition of the natural stones and crystals.

“Our jewelry is absolutely unique because a great deal of it is made from natural stones and this allows each piece to be totally special, because of the slight variations that occur naturally within stones and crystals,” said Jennifer.

In addition to an expansive and ever-changing inventory, The Grateful Heart has periodic classes, as well as tarot card readings and aura photography.

The Grateful Heart’s aura photography is a very popular activity; an individual will be seated in a chair and a Polaroid picture will be taken using a biofeedback camera. This picture will illuminate hidden colored energy fields around the body, which are linked to different mood qualities.

“Everything here heals in in some way. I have had people come in looking for a gift for a person with cancer and people suffering pain from relationships that ended – the items in this store speak to the individuals that select them and offer each person a path to heal,” shared Jennifer.

The Grateful Heart is located at 17 West Main Street in the Wickford Village. More information about the store and a schedule of available classes and services is online at http://www.gratefulheart.com
