On October 18-20th 2013, 116 older Girl Scouts from RI, Massachusetts and Maine came to Camp Hoffman in West Kingston RI to participate in a competitive camping event led by the GSRI NK/J service unit camping consultant Bill Howard, former NK leaders Lois Dexter and Kerri Foley and their team. TREC- Teens Reaching Extraordinary Challenges is a yearly event and now in its 8th year. TREC offers girls an opportunity to participate in “on the ground” low- impact camping -rain or shine. Scouts participate in skill challenges of outdoor cooking, knot tying, fire-building, orienteering, team building exercises, and “leave no trace” (LNT) camping principles. The event continues to draw more scouts every year with its “real appeal” in the great outdoors.
