VFW to Recognize Police and Firefighter of the Year

The awards ceremony is set for Friday at 9 a.m. at the police and fire building, 8166 Post Road.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 152 will hold a ceremony on Friday at 9 a.m. to honor the firefighter and police servant of the year.

According to David Ainslie, the awards will be presented at 9 a.m. at the North Kingstown Police and Fire Headquarters, 8166 Post Road, North Kingstown.

"This year’s awardee for the Law Enforcement Public Servant Award is Officer Nick Ambrosino," he said. Ambrosino is being honored "for his work within the department to build the training office from the ground up.

"This year’s awardee for the Firefighters Public Servant Award is Captain John Linacre," he said. He is being recognized "for his work to establish a Community Risk Assessment as an additional responsibility above and beyond his normal assigned duties.

"These awards are based on recognition by their colleagues and those they serve. The awardees have
demonstrated consistent excellence in the performance of their duties, as well as consistent dedication
to their official responsibilities over a period of years and continuous growth in responsibilities and skills
within their profession," he said.

The names of both winners have been "forwarded for recognition at the State and National level," he said.
