Wickford Art Association To Hold 5th Annual Poetry And Art Show

The poems are inspired by the art, and this year's theme is "Connections."

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI - From the Wickford Art Association: The Wickford Art Association is presenting a unique blending of two art forms at its 5h Annual Poetry and Art. The opening reception is on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at 36 Beach Street, North Kingstown, RI. The exhibit runs September 22 to October 15, is free and open to the public.

This year’s theme is “Connections” and 153 pieces of fine art were submitted for jury: juror Cindy Wilson selected forty-one pieces for inclusion. Poet Kim Baker juried the poets. Each piece of art was assigned to a poet who then composed a poem, drawing inspiration from the artwork or “ekphrasis” - writing inspired by art. Neither the artists nor the poets know who they have been paired with – that will be revealed at the reception on September 22, 2017. Artwork and poems will be exhibited side by side in the gallery and poetry readings will be shared with guests throughout the evening of the reception.

A professionally designed, limited edition book cataloguing the accepted artwork and responsive poetry has been published. The book will be available for sale at the Wickford Art Association’s gallery and website for $25 after September 22, 2017. Printing of the book was made possible with support from the North Kingstown Arts Council and Omni Printing.
