About 8:30 a.m. Monday, the Pawtucket Police Major Crime Unit, along with the Pawtucket Fire Department and Rhode Island State Police Dive Team, resumed the search for the
vehicle and located it after several hours, the email said.

Two women and a young child were inside the vehicle, according to the email.

"Out of respect for the family, the victims are being identified only as a 45-year-old female, a 22-year-old female and a 2-year-old female," the email said.

The vehicle was brought ashore and the women and child taken to the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners for further evaluation, according to the email.

"At this time, investigators believe this to be a tragic accident," the email said. "There are no indications of foul
play, and preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was in proper working order."

"On behalf of the City of Pawtucket, I extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” Mayor Donald R. Grebien said in the email.

“Our community mourns alongside them, and we want them to know they are not alone during this unimaginable time," Grebien said.
