Today's riddle: What do you call cows dancing in the dark 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. RIDE Audit: Pawtucket Lacked Records on 13 of 20 Exits (upriseri.com) — Pawtucket school officials are scrambling to fix graduation record-keeping after a state audit found 13 of 20 sampled student exits lacked proper documentation, forcing a corrective action plan due by September 30. The district is drafting new withdrawal procedures, adding multiple verification layers, and retraining staff so future graduation and dropout rates accurately reflect Pawtucket students' outcomes.
2. Pawtucket Teacher: Cunningham TA Position Abolished (upriseri.com) — A Cunningham Elementary teacher has alerted the Pawtucket School Committee that one of the school's two building teacher-assistant positions was abolished, leaving a high-need first-grade collaborative classroom without a TA this year. The teacher described how last year's intensive kindergarten class had far more adult support and urged the committee to explain why the cut happened after school began.
3. West Nile Virus Turns Up In 4 More Rhode Island Towns (patch.com) — West Nile virus has been detected in mosquito samples from Pawtucket, along with Newport, East Providence, and Providence, keeping Rhode Island's risk level at "high." Residents should continue taking mosquito precautions, since about one in five infected people develop fever and other symptoms and there is currently no vaccine to prevent the disease.
4. Lincoln Suspends Mattress Pickup as Shredder Goes Offline (upriseri.com) — Pawtucket residents can still recycle old mattresses at Tough Stuff Recycling even as Lincoln's curbside mattress pickup is suspended for about a month due to a broken shredder. Lincoln residents are being asked to join a waitlist, or haul mattresses themselves to the Pawtucket or Johnston drop-off sites, which have specific hours and condition rules.
