1 Firefighter Injured After Fire Partially Destroys Portsmouth Home
Fire officials struck a second alarm, bringing in help from fire departments in Newport, Bristol, and Middletown.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A firefighter suffered an injury while trying to put out a house fire in Portsmouth on Monday evening, according to fire officials.
Around 5:11 p.m., Portsmouth fire received multiple 911 calls about a house fire and possible explosion in the 4th block of Valhalla Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the basement and extending into the first floor and attic, officials said.
Fire officials said all residents of the home were accounted for on arrival. Fire officials struck a second alarm, bringing in help from fire departments in Newport, Bristol, and Middletown. Officials said they had the fire under control in about half an hour.

The home sustained significant damage during the fire, and one firefighter was sent to the hospital with a minor leg injury, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
