Portsmouth Woman Charged With Fraudulently Obtaining Public Assistance: Cops

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A Portsmouth woman was charged with fraudulently obtaining public assistance, police said.

Nancy Aguilar Martinez, 39, was also charged with obtaining more than $10,000 worth of property by false pretenses and giving false documents to a public official, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Aguilar Martinez was investigated by the state police Financial Crimes Unit, according to the release.

Aguilar Martinez surrendered at state police headquarters and was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the release said.

Martinez was processed at headquarters, arraigned by justice of the peace and released on a $20,000 personal recognizance according to police.
