The Portsmouth Youth Basketball Girls 11 travel team won the first-ever Rhode Island Youth Basketball Association (RIYBA) Championship this past weekend by defeating the East Greenwich Girls 11s in the championship game played Sunday night at North Providence High School, 41-20.
The RIYBA championship culminated an outstanding season by Coach Kevin Heffernan’s team, which saw them win the last six RIYBA-sponsored travel tournaments, with a record of 20-0 during that time. Team members included Alexis Greffen, Emma Campbell, Jane Kaull, Kylie Swider, Ruth Woods, Kara Moll, Katelyn Tavares, Jaclyn DeLuca, Grace Rooney and Laura Heffernan, and Assistant Coaches are Jim Campbell and Steve Rooney.Â
