Vestas' workmen perform routine maintenance.

According to Paul Jestings, the operations manager at , Vestas' workmen performed routine maintenance on the turbine, Friday, Nov. 19.

Vestas is the manufacturer of the 660kW wind turbine.

One of the tasks was to remove the "lead tape" that is  only on some portions of the blades.

"The "lead tape" is as old as the turbine itself. Every four years or so, it needs to be replaced." said Jestings.

"Lead tape" is a sacrificial tape that is installed and replaced in order to give wind turbine blades longer life by taking the brunt of the friction as the blades turn.
