Carousel: Showtime!

It's finally here - opening night and five performances of Carousel.

Many of us had opening night jitters, but it went very well. We opened on Wednesday evening to a good sized crowd.  We have done two performances so far and look forward to the weekend audiences.

Even though we will do the play five times - no two performances will be exactly alike.  In my case maybe my cap pistol will fire and maybe it won't.  If it doesn't fire, then the scene may become more comical then we intended.  A line ad-libed in one show may be kept for the next one.  We all know our parts well enough so even if the exact words are missed you still get the gist of the story.

As an actor you never really get to see the entire play because you are usually backstage waiting for your next scene or making a quick change into a different costume.

There is continual problem solving in figuring out a better cue or helping someone run their lines.  It is certainly a joint effort and that is what makes it fun.

We are all grateful to Cindy Killavey for the wonderful direction she has given us. We also appreciate Flo Oliveira for joining us on the piano.  Besides the actors there are many others who contribute to the whole project and it would not be possible without their help.  If you are interested in Community Theater come to the play and become involved.
