Glen Manor House and Next Week's Free American Band Concert discussed on "Portsmouth this Week"
Next Week's American Band Pops Concert highlighted on "Portsmouth this Week"
The focus on yesterday’s edition of Portsmouth this Week was Glen Manor House and featured an interview with Brenda Doran, Chair of the Friends of Glen Manor House. This is a private non-profit organization, dedicated to the restoration, preservation and maintenance of the Glen Manor House for the enjoyment of present and future Portsmouth residents.
The 30 minute program begins with a short promotional video of the Glen Manor House showcasing its use as a venue for corporate and social events that gives viewers some idea of the beauty of this town-owned site. The efforts of the Friends of the Glen Manor House have provided over $1.6 million in revenues for the town over the past 10 years, and funded over $1 million in maintenance and preservation projects at the Manor House. This organization currently has over 200 members and would like to get all Portsmouth residents involved in supporting the Manor House. Application details and other information can be found on their website at www.glenmanorhouse.com or by downloading and completing the attached pdf file.
Ms. Doran discussed the background and mission of her organization, as well as some of the annual public events held there, which include next week’s American Band Pops Concert, which takes place on Thursday, 19 July from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on the grounds of the Glen Manor House. This event is free and open to the public. Ms. Doran recommends that you arrive early to get a good spot, bring your own chairs, bugspray, food and drinks and settle in for an evening of music by one of the country’s oldest continuously performing bands, Rhode Island’s own “American Band.”
