The Only Choice is Change

For Woonsocket voters in Rep. District 50, the choice is clear. For six years we've had an absentee representative in Jon Brien. He touts the fact that he helped push through a new school funding formula but neglects to mention that in that legislation a clause was inserted to favor funding for schools in Newport over Woonsocket. Why didn't Mr. Brien fight for Woonsocket when he had the chance? 

His answer to solving the problems in Woonsocket is to build a waste to energy plant and he'd need to overturn or get an exemption to a state law to accomplish that. That won't happen, and even if it did, it would cause more problems than solve. Think about the traffic all those garbage trucks coming into the city would cause. Traffic in the city is already at or near gridlock, increasing the traffic volume with large waste-hauling vehicles is going to decrease the quality of life here, not improve it.

Mr. Brien also tries to connect Mr. Casey to Speaker Gordon Fox, but it was Mr. Brien who was sought out by the Speaker to sponsor the 38 Studios legislation. I'd say that was being more connected to the Speaker than the guy who accepted a campaign contribution from a fellow Democrat.

And when it comes to being a Democrat, don't be fooled by Mr. Brien telling you he's one. Just look at his long list of endorsements, the Tea Party, the RI Statewide Coalition, and the Minority Leader in the House, Republican Brian Newberry. The real Democrat in the race is Steve Casey, he was invited to attend events by Sen. Whitehouse and Reed and appeared on stage with former Rep. Patrick Kennedy this past weekend.

So, if you haven't voted yet, please get out there and vote to preserve Democratic ideals and to move forward with new leadership with a representative who will fight to protect what you have.
