The Bristol Ferry Town Common, at the north end of Bristol Ferry Road, has a special Christmas Tree, now decked out with Christmas decorations in honor of the season.
The tree was planted last year in memory of Mrs. Nannery, a long time local resident who lived nearby for many years and was decorated by another local resident, Abby Brown.
The Bristol Ferry Town Common is Portsmouth's only existing Town Common and was established in 1714 as a place for local Ferry passengers to keep their livestock while awaiting transport on the ferry to Bristol. It will be the site of a revolutionary war reenactment by the Newport Artillary Company next year in celebration of Portsmouth's 375th anniversary.
