Chargers Win 1-0 Against Patriots; PHS to Play Tonight Against Hendricken

PHS boy's soccer team lost by only one point recently in their second away game. The Patriots will play against Bishop Hendricken High School this Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Warwick.

The sun set and the field lights flashed on recently as the Portsmouth High School Patriots walked onto their home field for their second home game of the season against the Chariho High School Chargers. The stands were filled with rowdy student and family fans, hoping for a win.

The Patriots won the kick off and started the game with ball possession. Their communication and passing helped them to keep possession for the majority of the game. Portsmouth had several opportunities in the first half to place the ball in back of the net, but were unable to complete their shots.

In the 37th minute of the game, just before half time, Chariho senior Neil LaBier placed it in the net from inside the 18-yard box for the first and only goal of the night off of a Charger's corner kick.

The Patriots came out on fire in the second half, ready to redeem themselves. The team dominated the game and had over 10 shots, including a breakaway play and a direct kick where Charges goalie fumbled the save, but they could still not tie it up.

Key players for Portsmouth during the game were left wing Brandon Jumaoas and Senior Captain Tyler Oliveira on offense. Junior Captain Evan Carnevale and Robbie Wordell also contributed to tonight's game on defense.
