College Conduct Director Charged With DUI

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Heidi Hartzell was charged with Driving Under the Influence on Dec. 28, according to the Portsmouth police and news sources.

Officers were alerted by another driver who followed her into Portsmouth after a minor accident in Middletown.

Middletown police have also charged her with failing to stop after an accident.

Hartzell is director of student conduct at Roger Williams University.

Roger Williams University released this statement:

"The university does not comment on specific personnel matters or release information that would compromise ongoing internal reviews. While the university takes any criminal charges filed against an employee seriously, it will always conduct a fair and thorough internal investigation before taking whatever action is appropriate, based both on the circumstances of any such case and the nature of the employee’s job responsibilities."
